Timeless ballgowns

A time tested silhouette and style, the Ballgown finds its origins from eras past when Debutante Balls were the norm in western society. The Ballgown has since seen many cycles of evolution to what it is today, (gone are the highly exaggerated structured puff shapes a la the classic Disney Princesses) but the basics are still part and parcel of the Ballgown look.

The basic structure to the ballgown is that of a nipped waist, courtesy of a corset. What really sets the international designer pieces we carry at Truly Enamoured apart from massmade pieces is that International Designer pieces are crafted to Haute Couture standards. This is evident by the layers upon layers of fabric that structure the full skirt of a ballgown, cut from fabrics that can’t be sourced locally and pieced together painstakingly.

Despite the dramatic changes to the ballgown, it remains a ubiquitous reference to elegance, romance, and glamour. Hence, it’s pretty safe to say that the Ballgown silhouette is here to stay. With that, we sift through our curation of Ballgowns to bring you an edit of modern, timeless pieces we love for a fabulous grand wedding, be it black-tie or a little less formal.

Very much a classic ballgown with wide pleats at the waist, the unique twist comes from the highly intricate beadwork cascading throughout the entire gown… including its metrelong train.

Helena by Monique Lhuillier

Monique Lhuillier’s signature style shines through this timeless piece, with delicate lacework and a feminine touch of lace appliqué on the bodice which also features a slight V-neckline. Also, the mastery behind the curve of the skirt comes from layers of crinoline beneath the dress.

Elie Saab

This Elie Saab piece is the epitome of modern luxury and elegance. Featuring a two-metre-long train and an abundance of beaded lace, it’s the perfect gown for an epic black tie wedding. We love how the Lebanese designer has made it modern with a square neckline and a very much toned down ballgown silhouette.
